I’ve been pretty absent with posting MR-Tuesday for quite some time now. Most of it had to do with buying a house (with a garage!) and moving everything over. Then came the winter and a Biggest Loser contest at work that took most of my free time. I’m glad to announce that I’m back at working on the MR2 again, hoping to have it up and running as soon as the salt is washed off the roads.

Fast forward to last weekend, I started the arduous task of removing the head from the engine to figure out why it was pulling vacuum from the driver’s rear corner where the head meets the block. I decided I will be doing a lot of cleaning and simplifying the engine bay A LOT while I’m in there. This will include building an MS2 Megasquirt setup so I can run coil over plugs, removal of the VAF system, EGR elimination, and removal of most of the vacuum lines (except for the TVIS, Cruise Control, and Charcoal Canister system). Long term I’d like to run ITB’s mainly for that glorious engine noise (I know they don’t add anything power wise).

The garage could use some lighting upgrades, but next week we get an extra hour so I can make the most of that time for sure! I’m hoping the vacuum problem is just due to the previous owner using a compacted graphite head gasket and not a warped head. If the head is warped I’m probably looking into an engine swap.

Also, I spoke with someone on here about some RPF1's that might be up for sale from their AW11. Can’t remember who that was. If you are reading this, hit me up in the comments.

Ah that was me with the RPF1's. Sorry but I already sold them.

Good luck with the head! After I pulled mine, I found out it was in worse shape than I thought and did the 20v Blacktop swap instead of a rebuild

Thanks for the update, no worries, glad you got them sold.

How many miles did yours have? Mine has 82k miles.

Those TRMotorsposrts from Tire Rack are actually pretty damn good and light for the price. They’re what I run on Charlie. They’re made by enkei, so it’s not like you have to worry about build quality. They just say Tire Rack on the center cap instead.

I too have been lax in my MR2sday updates, but mostly because there’s no update. Just got my new exhaust system from SV3 though, so I should hopefully have it back on the road in a couple of weeks with a blacktop!

Also (regarding ITBs), I have an extra set of BT ITBs that I might be looking to get rid of depending on how fucked my old 16V is. If it’s salvageable, I’m going to try rebuilding it and it will be getting that setup, but if not I can give you a deal on it. The only thing it’s missing are the injector clips, but if you’re running the 16V head, you’re just going to be plugging those injector holes anyway. TechnoToyTuning makes plugs specifically for it.

Okay. It probably won’t be for a few weeks at the soonest because i haven’t tried looking at my old engine yet, but I’ll let you know when I know.

I’ll probably be removing the head from my 16 valve this week or weekend. Depending on how it looks inside too. It should be ok, its pretty low miles.
